What image is conjured in your head when you think of a Compost Heap? For us, it is not just the Compost Heap, but the area in a garden around the Compost Heap which is often hidden away. Perhaps a quiet, slightly overgrown corner, filled with empty pots, tucked away from spying eyes. It's here that from time to time vegetables, plants, fruits and flowers all lead lives of their own.
The concept was dreamt up in late 2001, but it was not until spring 2003 that the first shoots (cards) appeared. Since 2003 the hand drawn images often using a small play on words can be found in selected retailers around the world. George Ashton-Jones, the artist continues: "I try to create characters which are colourful and pleasing on the eye. The message is designed to be gently humorous - to bring a smile to your face - perhaps some relief in your frantic day".
The Compost Heap is based in Sussex, England, hiding under the South Downs. Our greeting cards are printed and packed in Sussex, actively supporting local business. We try and produce products of the highest quality. We try to source the best raw materials (paper, ink, envelopes etc) for both the consumer and the environment. We're fresh, original, organic, healthy, fun and never soil our trousers.
